Alright, friends. Let's talk about one of my all time favorite trends: infused water.
First and foremost, let's talk health benefits. Besides it being a fun and great tasting way to up your water intake, certain infused plants, fruits, and vegetables (such as fresh jalapenos), give your metabolism a serious kick-starter.
There are so many recipes that fight nasty things like bloating and fatigue, and others that promote antioxidant boosters, weight-loss, and your metabolism!
Drink it iced or hot, blueberries, limes, grapefruit, watermelon, strawberries, even things like basil, jalapeno, cinnamon, and rosemary.... if it is in the fresh fruit and vegetable section, chances are you can definitely infuse it.
Here are a few of my favorite infused waters, not just for taste but for all the rad health benefits that come along with it. Make a glass, prepare your week's worth in individual tumblers, or make a pitcher for sipping on. Enjoy!
Watermelon, Lime, Mint- The ultimate sipping at the pool, the beach, or post work-out Vitamin C packed awesomeness. For those of you who like extra mint, muddle it up to make sure you get the maximum flavor.
1 grapefruits, halved and sliced in wedges
1-2 limes, halved and sliced in wedges
Mint leaves, to taste
Pour iced water over this and let sit
Lemon, Lime, Cucumber, Fresh Jalapeno- This is a sure fire way to get your day started right. I know what you're thinking. That fresh jalapenos sound terrible in infused water. The truth is that you honestly can barely even taste them, so long as you remove as many of the seeds as you like. Because the seeds are the reason that jalapenos pack so much spice, you can decide whether you want to de-seed them altogether or keep as many of them as you want depending on your personal preference. Because I drink this for the metabolism benefits, I choose to keep the seeds in and take the heat. Best part? You can drink this one hot or cold!
1 Persian cucumber or 1/2 English cucumber
1-2 green or yellow jalapenos
1 lime, halved and sliced in wedges
1 lemon, halved and sliced in wedges
Pour hot or iced water over this and let sit
Blueberry, Blackberry, Strawberry, Basil- Need quick fix of antioxidants? This water can aid you in the fight against free radicals which can produce anything from disease inhibitors to bad skin. Drink this up a few times a week and your immune system, skin, heart, and eyes will thank you
Muddle 1/3 cup of mixed blueberries, blackberries, strawberries
2/3 unmuddled cup of mixed blueberries, blackberries, strawberries
Basil to taste
Pour ice water over this and let sit
Papaya, Raspberry, and Orange- Do you have problem skin? This is your best bet in turning that around, I promise you. Papaya, which is a well known for being a skin superfood because of its high potency of Vitamin A and Papain which aids in removing dead skin cells and inactive proteins. Boost your complexion with antioxidants from raspberries and the Vitamin C poster child, orange.
1 orange, halved and sliced in wedges
1/2 cup of raspberries
1/2 chopped papaya, seeds removed
I hope you enjoy the taste and benefits of all the waters. Make sure to try them all and let me know how they work for you!
